Disclaimer etc. in Prologue... Menage a trois By DanaK35 PART SIX FBI Field-Office Miami, Florida Monday, 09:45 am The blazing Florida sun made Dana Scully and Walter Skinner squint when they got out of their rental car in front of the Field Office in North Miami Beach. "Jesus, it's hot!" Skinner muttered and ushered her into the building. Agents Montgomery and Jennings followed them hastily. The four Agents had met the previous night for a briefing, after Scully and Skinner had flown in from Boston, Montgomery and Jennings from DC, a meeting that had lasted until early morning. Consequently they were all rather exhausted from the lack of sleep and the heat. The conference room was pleasantly cool and as soon as the Agents from the Miami office had arrived Walter Skinner opened the meeting with a brief update on the murder of Senator Borrows. He had been shot in the back of the head at close range, execution-style. Senator Adams had been taken into custody, after being confronted with the death of his fellow congressman and his obvious involvement. He had agreed to co-operate in exchange for a lesser sentence and protection. "Senator Adams has named some of his contacts, but that is not enough at this point", Skinner elaborated. "We need to make sure we get to the top-level bosses this time, so the question is how to proceed..." Scully watched him as he was scribbling notes on a flipchart. It was hard for her to remain her cool exterior, when she couldn't help but imagining his hands on her body, her hands running through the thick hair of his chest. To speak of the case, to call him "Sir" and being called "Agent Scully" in that commanding voice was getting harder by the minute. Being lovers had changed her perception and she asked herself whether it had changed his as well. If it had he didn't show it. She couldn't help but feeling the strange excitement of the whole situation. As soon as they had reached Miami he had become all Assistant Director, taking charge, calling briefing meetings. It obviously hadn't bothered him that they were staying in separate hotels. As usual, Kim had organized one of the apartments the FBI owned in Miami for him, whereas Scully and the two Agents stayed at the Holiday Inn. Scully had been slightly disappointed, but had scolded herself for behaving like a lovesick teenager. "...So I think that's how we should proceed..." Skinner finished his sentence and looked directly at her. Scully swallowed and averted her eyes. She hadn't heard one word he had been saying. His mouth formed a thin line and one eyebrow shot up questioningly. "Agents Montgomery and Jennings, I want you to observe the 'South American Coffee Import/Export Company'. Miller, Hagans and Lutz should check out the Merchant Bank of Colombia and Agent Scully and myself and will pay Mr. Fondevilla a visit!" Everybody got up and filed out of the room. Scully got up and picked up her suit jacket. Skinner did likewise and when they left the room, he put one hand on the small of her back and whispered mockingly "You should be paying more attention, Agent Scully!" She didn't turn but a smile grazed her face and she thought 'You have no idea!' ********************* Joaquin Fondevilla was a heavyset, balding man in his early fifties. As owner of the 'South American Coffee Import/Export Company', several convenience stores and CEO of the Merchant Bank of Colombia he was one of the most influential men in Miami. Skinner and Scully had to wait for half an hour before being ushered into his office by a nervous admin assistant. Skinner pulled out his FBI badge and introduced them matter-of-factly. Fondevilla eyed them through heavy lids and then motioned to the chairs facing his desk. "What can I do for you, Mr. Skinner?" He asked in heavy-accented English. "We are investigating the death of a US Senator, Senator William Borrows and we found your name and address in his book..." Scully explained and Fondevilla's gaze dropped onto her face. He was quiet for a moment. "Borrows...the name does not ring a bell!" Scully leaned forward "It doesn't? Last year Senator Borrows granted you immense funds for your new factory, Mr. Fondevilla!" Fondevilla looked back at Skinner, addressing him directly, ignoring Scully. "Mr. Skinner, I deal with a lot of people... I certainly don't remember all of them, so what is it you want?" Scully took a deep breath. She was used to this kind of ignorance in her job, but it bothered her nevertheless. Skinner said in a cool voice. "I think we are done for today, Mr. Fondevilla...if you think of anything, here is my card!" He got up and Scully followed him out the office. "What was that all about?" she asked when they were back in their car. "I think we have stirred him up, that's enough for today." He looked at his watch. It was already past six. He swallowed and asked quietly. "Wanna get some dinner, Scully?" "I'd love to, but I NEED to get out of this suit, can you drop me at my hotel?" He did so and she regretted that he didn't ask if he could come inside, but he said he needed to change as well and drove off. ********************** Skinner knocked her door an hour later and entered after hearing her "Come in!" She was sitting on the couch, a book in her hand. For a moment he stayed by the door, studying her. That also seemed to be something he was doing quite frequently these days. She was wearing a simple, flowered dress, buttoned down the front and white Keds. Her face was devoid of make-up save for some mascara and light lipstick. She was beautiful and his heart started beating wildly in his chest. Would he be able to hold on to her? Or would he lose her to Mulder? "Aren't you going to come in?" She interrupted his thoughts and got up. He reached out and pulled her into his arms, savoring her smell, the feel of her body against his. She tilted up her face and he kissed her. She tasted of toothpaste. His tongue traced the line of her mouth. She caught it with her lips and answered his kiss. "I have waited all day to do just that" she smiled when they parted. He gave her one of his looks. "Let's go." They had to park on Collins Avenue, since the drive was congested with traffic. Scully felt transported into another world as they walked through the crowds of people on busy Ocean Drive. Bars and restaurants lined the street to one side, the beach and wide ocean limiting it on the other. There were gorgeous women and men in their swimsuits, some of them even on roller- blades. Others were cruising along in open cars, music blaring. Tourists strolled along the sidewalk gaping at the variety of colorful people. They found an empty table in one of the sidewalk-restaurants and ordered dinner. Scully kept watching the crowd as Skinner talked about the case and how he thought they should proceed. She nodded absentmindedly and asked herself, why he seemed to be so nervous tonight. He had avoided her eyes, had only talked about the case. Their food arrived and they ate silently, until Scully laid her fork down. "What's the matter with you, Skinner?" She asked and he looked up at her, brow furrowed, a sad expression in his dark eyes. For a second he looked every one of his forty-six years. Scully raised one eyebrow questioningly. "You think it was a mistake, don't you?" she asked slowly. "You regret that you've crossed the line and slept with me?" He swallowed at her openness and took a sip of his beer. "How could I regret that, Dana... Scully? NO, I don't regret having slept with you, not for one second, but I have my doubts as to whether it was the right thing to do..." "Why?" "Because of... I am still your superior officer, kind of; given our history and what we are both involved in... the fact that... there are too many things..." The eyebrow went up further. "That's not it, is it Skinner?" He sighed. "The fact that you are in love with Fox Mulder... the fact that he loves you... we both know that!" He didn't even mention the threat he lived under since his infection with the nanocytes. Scully looked at him angrily. "Mulder and I have never had a relationship, not really... and I am here with you now aren't I?" she asked. "Do you think I am here with you to spite Mulder? Do you really believe that?" "No, I..." "Good," she interrupted him. "During the last years I have seen and experienced things that I still cannot explain fully; I have lost people I loved, I have almost lost my life, Skinner, I have become a different person. But I have also lost something else; I have lost parts of myself. I have become a woman that lives in the past, which is afraid and defeated. It is true, through all this Fox Mulder has been my closest friend, the only person I trusted beside my family, but when I came to Boston I was looking for something, I was looking for the woman I had been before the X files and I have regained some of my old self... I have learned to laugh again, I have learned to live the day... why can't you accept that now at this moment, WE are here together, isn't that enough for NOW, because if it isn't I think I better go back to Boston tonight..." Tears had appeared in the corners of her eyes and she swallowed them angrily. He reached out and wiped them away, taking her hand and kissing the fingers gently. No matter how much he feared to lose her, she was right, she was with him now and even though her reluctance to talk about Mulder bothered him, he would let it go for now. "Stay." He said simply. Her fingers smoothed the lines on his forehead. "I will... let's just take this one step at a time!" They finished dinner and walked across the street along the beach. The path was only dimly lit and the voices and music from the street were subdued by the rolling of the waves. Skinner had put one arm around her shoulders; her hand was resting on his hip. The breeze was refreshing after the oppressive heat of the day. "I wish we could stay here like this..." she whispered. He pulled her closer. "I need to go back to the office", he said after a while. She nodded. "Can you take me back to my hotel?" "Why don't I drop you off at the apartment..." "What about Montgomery and Jennings?" "I'll take care of it." He assured. They didn't speak on their way back and after picking up a couple of clothes from Scully's room. Skinner stopped in front of his apartment and dropped the keys into Scully's hands. "I'll see you in a while." Scully unlocked the door and entered, switching on all the lights. The apartment was furnished sparsely, but tastefully. Skinner's jacket was draped over one of the chairs and Scully touched the fabric briefly. The bedroom was neatly made up and his shirts and suits hung in the closet. She put her own clothes next to his and went into the bathroom to take a shower. Then she crawled under the crisp sheets after putting on one of Skinner's simple white t-shirts. The pillows smelled of his aftershave and she inhaled his scent deeply. She switched on the TV and stared at the screen unseeing. She brooded over the exchange they'd had at dinner. She'd never expected him to be insecure about anything, but somehow that only made him more lovable. Lovable? Did she love him? She didn't know. It was after two when Skinner returned, having been caught up in another murder, which had occurred in Boston. The president of the bank that was involved in the money laundering had been shot in his home in Marblehead. There was no doubt about the involvement of Fondevilla's organization but there wasn't any conclusive evidence. He'd spent hours on the phone with the director and it had been decided that Scully would return to Boston to take matters over. He undressed and stepped into the shower quietly after checking on a sleeping Scully. After toweling himself off he shaved and looked at himself in the mirror. If the last years hadn't taken their toll, the illness he'd been given certainly had. The lines in his face were deeper, his eyes older. He regarded his broad chest and lean, firm body, clad only in boxers. His body had never betrayed his age, but his face now did. He thought of Mulder's handsome face, less lines...less years. 'Stop it, stop it' he told himself and switched of the light. He would just have to trust her, trust in himself. Live the day. He slipped into bed and pulled Scully's warm body close. She mumbled something and took his hand. He pressed his lips to her hair hoping that sleep would come to him soon. ********************* Miami, Fl. Tuesday 7:30 am The sound of water running in the shower woke Dana Scully the next morning. She looked around confusedly, not knowing where she was. Skinner was already up, just like last time she had woken up after spending the night with him. Sighing she got up, his white shirt tangling around her thighs. Through the milky glass of the shower she could see the outline of his body. She slipped out of the shirt and stepped into the shower, planting a kiss on his back. He turned, blinking rapidly as the water hit his eyes. Scully wrapped her arms around him so that the steaming water hit her as well. He ran his hands down her back and bent down to kiss her, devouring her mouth. She stood on tiptoe and pressed the length of her body to him, feeling him harden in response. Her fingers traced the line of her from his chest down to his stomach in small circles. With one swift move he turned her around. He placed small kisses down her neck and shoulders, cupping her breasts from behind. She could feel his arousal and struggled to turn. He wouldn't let her, instead he ran on hand down her stomach until he found her center, stroking her languidly. She moaned softly and threw her head back. Her lips seeking his, answering his kiss hungrily. She gasped as her buried two fingers deep inside her. He stroked her hardened nipple, finding a rhythm. Her breath came in small gasps as he increased the pressure inside her and she shuddered against him as she came with a low moan. He finally turned her to him, still kissing her, his arms like steel around her. He could feel her heart beating rapidly against his chest. Scully turned off the water and picked up the huge white towel that hung next to the shower cabin, wrapping it around both of them. She took his hand and led him back to the other room, making him lay down on the bed. He murmured her name as she started kissing him from his chest down to his stomach, while stroking the length of him with one hand. He writhed underneath her ministrations and groaned quietly when she took him into her mouth, licking, sucking until he felt he couldn't take it any longer. His hand snaked around the back of her head as he drew her into another sensual kiss. He tasted himself and she straddled him, guiding him into her. His eyes flew open and he a low cry escaped his throat. He filled her completely and pleasure rippled through her flesh. He thrust into her slowly, languidly until she felt a tingling sensation building up as his movements grew faster, harder. Her inner muscles contracted involuntarily as she reached her climax and moments later he moaned her name and emptied himself inside her. She collapsed on top of him, burying her face in the dark mass of hair on his chest. He played with a lock of her hair. "We are going to be late Agent Scully," he said with a smile. She shrugged and lifted her head to look at him. He looked content; his dark eyes seemed to glow, his hands caressing her back. "I wish we could go away, just the two of us, just for a while, somewhere...," she said. "Far away from DC, from Boston?" She nodded. "When this case is closed." He answered and got up to shower and dress. "We can go down to the Keys..." ********************* This time they showered separately. She watched him as he shaved with clean, precise moves, then as he put on his shirt, suit and tie with the same concentration. Moments later the man that had made passionate love to her was gone. Assistant Director Skinner stood next to her and glanced at her putting on a last tough of lipstick. Their eyes met in the mirror. She smiled slightly, he smiled back. It was as easy as that. "You need to fly back to Boston," informed her when they were in the car on their way to the office and filled her in on the second murder. "I would like you to head up the investigation." She nodded and asked. "What about you?" "I'll stay here and try to get some more info out of Fondevilla, I'll get that son of a bitch." They reached the office and picked up the necessary files for Scully to read on her trip. Skinner drove her to the airport, to the surprise of Montgomery and Jennings who watched them arrive and leave together. At the gate, Skinner dropped something in her hand. It was a key and when she looked at him questioningly he said. "My apartment in DC, I'll be back on Friday." She nodded and replied simply. "I'll be there." Then she boarded the plane; Skinner looked at her fading form. Only when the doors were closed did he turn away. End part six
